How to Crush the LSAT
The Law School Admission Test (LSAT) is one of the most important components of your law school application. A strong LSAT score can make up for a lower GPA, increase scholarship opportunities, and improve your chances of getting into top law schools. While the test is challenging, a strategic approach can help you maximize your score and stand out in the admissions process.
1. Plan Ahead and Make Studying a Priority
The LSAT requires months of dedicated preparation. The biggest mistake students make is underestimating the time and effort needed.
Start studying at least 4–6 months before your test date.
Treat LSAT prep like a college course. Dedicate 10–15 hours per week to practice.
Use a structured study plan. If you’re part of Kappa Alpha Pi (KAPi), take advantage of our LSAT Prep Course for expert guidance.
2. Avoid Taking the LSAT "Cold"
Some students assume they can walk into the LSAT and "wing it"—this is a mistake.
Take a diagnostic test first. This gives you a baseline score and helps identify weaknesses.
Review incorrect answers. The LSAT isn’t just about getting answers right but understanding why an answer is correct.
Use official LSAC practice tests. These are the closest you’ll get to real test conditions.
3. Master the LSAT’s Sections
The LSAT consists of Logical Reasoning, Analytical Reasoning (Logic Games), Reading Comprehension, and a Writing Sample.
Logical Reasoning (LR): Focuses on analyzing arguments. Study flaw types, inference questions, and assumption questions.
Analytical Reasoning (Logic Games): One of the hardest sections—practice diagramming efficiently and use LSAT Logic Games Bible.
Reading Comprehension: Develop strategies for identifying main ideas, inference questions, and comparative reading.
4. Take the LSAT Early (But Not Too Early)
Many law schools accept multiple LSAT attempts, but you want to aim for your best score before applications are due.
Ideal test dates: Summer before senior year (June, August, or September).
Leave time for retakes. If you score lower than expected, you can try again in October or November.
5. Use Proven LSAT Prep Resources
There are many LSAT prep options, so choose what works best for you.
Join the KAPi LSAT Prep Course. Our structured study sessions, practice materials, and peer support make preparation easier.
Try online resources like 7Sage, LSAT Demon, and Khan Academy.
Consider a tutor if needed. Some students benefit from one-on-one coaching for Logic Games or Logical Reasoning.
6. Practice, Practice, Practice!
Taking full-length, timed practice tests under real conditions is essential.
Take at least 10 full practice tests.
Review every mistake. Keep a log of missed questions and understand why.
Simulate real test conditions. Take practice exams at the same time of day as your actual test.
7. Stay Calm and Trust the Process
The LSAT is a skill-based exam, and you will improve with practice.
Stay consistent. A little progress every day adds up.
Don’t burn out. Take breaks and prioritize self-care.
Believe in yourself. Many top law students started exactly where you are now.
By following these steps and using KAPi’s LSAT resources, you’ll be on your way to crushing the LSAT and securing a top law school acceptance.
